A WARM SHOT OF TETANUS WITH A DASH OF KUSTOM KULTURE
18 May 2019 - 30 June 2019
Gallery 54 Collective in Penola is pleased to present "Turn the Page" by members and "A Warm Shot of Tetanus with a Dash of Kustom Kulture" by Mark de Nys and Dan Kane.
As part of the Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival, Gallery 54 opened two exciting exhibitions on Saturday 18 May, which will run until 30th June 2019. Visitors were welcomed by local Boandik elder Aunty Michelle Jacquelin-Furr who shared her knowledge, language and family history of the Penola district.
Members of Gallery 54 have offered their diverse interpretations of the written word in a broad selection of media as part of this literary celebration. Works in paintings, drawings, ceramic, books and sculpture are part of this splendid display, and visitors enjoyed their time talking with the artists. Aunty Michelle expressed her amazement of the exhibition and talked of her family story, which has been recorded on a traditional Possum fur Cloak by three
generations of the Jacquelin family.
The Courtyard has come to life with sculptures by Mark de Nys and Dan Kane created from their keen collection of metals. The “Kulture Vulture” by Dan Kane stands tall and proud in the garden alongside Mark de Nys’ “Afloat” with other multiformed creations.
“We look forward to welcoming visitors to the gallery.
The gallery contains a dedicated changing exhibition space where members and visiting artists can display new and experimental work. If you are interested in exhibiting, contact Gallery 54 for more details on how to hire the exhibition room.
